Every month, we hear from contractors who run across something that leaves them scratching their heads: a client’s prequalification form asking for a BROWZ ID or requesting proof of BROWZ compliance.
If that’s happened to you, you’re not alone—and you’re not imagining things.
So let’s clear the air:
BROWZ doesn’t exist as a standalone system anymore. It was acquired by Avetta several years ago, and today, all compliance requirements once handled through BROWZ are now managed through the Avetta platform.
But since many companies still use old vendor forms or recycled templates, they haven’t updated the language—and that’s why you’re still seeing BROWZ referenced.
A Quick Recap: What Was BROWZ?
BROWZ was a well-known contractor prequalification platform used by clients in construction, utilities, oil & gas, and other high-risk industries. If your company did field work for major operators or facility owners, you may have had to register with BROWZ to submit your insurance, safety programs, and training records.
For years, BROWZ operated alongside other systems like ISNetworld and Veriforce. But that changed in 2019.
The Merger: BROWZ Is Now Part of Avetta
In early 2019, Avetta—a leading provider of supply chain risk and compliance management—acquired BROWZ as part of its expansion strategy. The transition wasn’t immediate, but by the end of 2020, most clients had been fully moved over to the Avetta platform.
At that point, BROWZ was no longer an active system. Everything—RAVS-style safety program uploads, insurance documentation, even those old BROWZ scores—was now housed in Avetta.
So, if you’re looking for a BROWZ login page or wondering where to update your “BROWZ profile,” the answer is: you won’t find one. That world has fully shifted to Avetta.
Why You’re Still Seeing BROWZ on Vendor Forms
Even though BROWZ was absorbed into Avetta years ago, many hiring clients haven’t updated their paperwork. We regularly see outdated forms asking questions like:
- “Do you have a current BROWZ ID?”
- “Is your company BROWZ compliant?”
- “Please attach your BROWZ scorecard.”
These references don’t mean the client is still using BROWZ—they’re just using old forms. But make no mistake: if a company used to require BROWZ, they now use Avetta. And that means you need to be Avetta compliant to work with them.
The Main Difference Between BROWZ and Avetta’s Platforms
While both BROWZ and Avetta were designed to help companies manage contractor safety and compliance, their platforms had some notable differences. BROWZ operated as a relatively straightforward compliance portal, focused heavily on collecting documentation such as insurance certificates, safety program PDFs, and EMR (Experience Modification Rate) scores. It had a more manual interface and was often seen as less structured in terms of grading and feedback. In contrast, Avetta offers a more robust and data-driven platform.
Avetta’s system includes built-in grading algorithms, real-time analytics, and automated alerts that notify contractors of upcoming expirations or deficiencies. Additionally, Avetta emphasizes continuous improvement by requiring specific formatting for safety programs, enforcing ongoing document updates, and providing a more interactive experience between contractors and clients. While BROWZ mainly functioned as a document collection tool, Avetta acts as a more active compliance management system—demanding regular engagement, tracking key safety metrics, and offering a higher level of transparency for both hiring clients and suppliers.
What This Means for Contractors
If you’ve worked for a client that once required BROWZ, and you’re being asked to update your compliance, you’ll need to:
- Create or access your Avetta account
- Submit updated safety programs, training documents, and insurance certificates
- Connect to your client’s profile within the Avetta platform
- Meet Avetta-specific formatting and documentation standards (which are different from BROWZ)
If you’re not sure how to do that—or if your account is sitting incomplete—it can hold up your approval, delay project starts, or cost you future bids.
