Chord Energy, a publicly traded independent energy company based in Houston with major operations in North Dakota and Montana, has emerged as one of the most influential players in the Williston Basin. After merging with Whiting Petroleum in July 2022 and later acquiring Enerplus in 2024, Chord now manages approximately 1.3 million net acres and five active operated rigs—delivering around 171,000 BOE per day. As Chord grows, so do its contractor compliance expectations—and they’re making ISNetworld® (ISN) certification non-negotiable.
Who Chord Energy Requires to have ISNetworld®
According to Chord’s Contractor Expectations Manual, virtually any company performing on-site work—regardless of crew size—is required to set up and actively maintain an ISN account if they:
- Perform field services, even as a solo operator
- Truck or transport materials (pipe, gravel, cement) to Chord sites
- Install or service tagged equipment (vessels, pumps, compressors)
- Operate aerial inspections or drone-based surveys
- Hire subcontractors, as they must also be qualified through ISN
That means whether you’re hauling, drilling, lifting, surveying, or rigging—you must be ISN-equipped to step foot on Chord locations.
What Chord Expects in ISNetworld®
Chord doesn’t settle for generic compliance. Their HSE manual specifies that ISN-registered contractors must:
- Maintain a subscription tied to Chord and keep contact info up-to-date
- Hold a minimum ISN grade of A, B, or C—a FAIL grade disqualifies you from working
- Enable and monitor bulletin alerts for changing HSE expectations
- Upload key documents: insurance certificates, EMR, OSHA logs, signed acknowledgment forms
- Complete the RAVS-reviewed written HSE programs and the Chord Safety Culture questionnaire
- Upload incident statistics like TRIF and quarterly TRF rates
- Keep all profile elements current—especially insurance and OSHA logs—annually or as needed
Missing any of these can lead to site bans, costly delays, or even contract termination.
Why Compliance Matters to You
Chord Energy’s sprawling operations—across 1.3 million acres—on five rigs demand strict safety performance from all vendors. ISNetworld streamlines oversight, sets benchmarks, and ensures every contractor aligns with Chord’s systems-based approach to HSE. A lapsed insurance certificate or incomplete HSE program can halt your crew before they even drive on site. You lose time and money with each avoidable hiccup.
What Contractors Work with Chord Energy?
Here are some of the contractor types Chord brings onboard—and requires to be ISN-compliant:
- Drilling and completion contractors
- Rig moves and rig services
- Pipe, pump, compressor, and valve installers
- Civil and access road crews
- Hauling/transit and material delivery teams
- Aerial inspection and site photography providers
- Specialized field services (e.g., erosion control, fencing, spill response)
And yes, even small outfits with one-truck hauls or drone-only crews fall under the ISN umbrella.
